Job Description

The candidate will work as a member of the Target Discovery Group with a team of scientists in the development of next generation cancer therapies. Typical projects will involve extensive hands-on laboratory work involving a range of molecular and cellular biology techniques. These can include using the company’s proprietary CombiGEM/ CRISPR molecular biology platform in human cell-lines with the goal of transforming patient lives by working towards identifying new targets efficiently.

The candidate must be able to work independently in key technical areas and collaborate effectively within the Engine team of scientists and other research associates, external collaborators, service providers, and vendors.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the following tasks:

  • Genetic manipulation of cells using molecular cloning techniques. For this, prior work experience in a research laboratory with PCR, DNA extraction and purification, molecular cloning, and bacterial cell culture is required.

  • Hands-on experience with CRISPR/Cas9 technology, RNA, and protein extraction is highly desirable.

  • Build molecular libraries genetic screening and drug discovery.

  • Draft protocols and develop SOPs for new assays, evaluate and decide on QC criteria.

  • Biochemical analysis of cell viability, protein expression analysis by western blots.

  • Sample preparation for Sanger DNA sequencing, next-generation sequencing (NGS), RNA-sequencing, qPCR.

  • Day-to-day running of assays for screening biological functions and phenotypes in mammalian cell-lines.

  • Flow cytometry and fluorescent activated cell sorting experiments.

  • Operate, maintain, and track calibration and performance of laboratory equipment.

  • Stock check laboratory supplies, procurement and receiving consumables, and conduct general laboratory administration.

  • Keep detailed logs of lab activities as hard copy and electronic lab notebooks.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education – A life sciences BS/ BSc/ BTech with 2-3 years of post-degree work experience, or MS/ MSc/ MTech with at least 1 year of post-degree work experience in the field of Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Cancer Research, Pharmaceutical engineering, or related fields.

Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques including primer design, Sanger sequence analysis, PCR/qPCR, gene cloning, DNA/RNA isolation, and bacterial culture for plasmid propagation is required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in cell biology techniques including mammalian cell culture, and microscopy.

  • Experience in R&D laboratory in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, or startup is highly desirable.

  • Experience in high-throughput cloning, and sample preparation for NGS or RNA-sequencing is a plus.

  • Experience with immune cell handling (PBMCs, T-cells, NK-cells) is desirable.

The candidate must have demonstrated ability to:

  • Work on tasks independently in a multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic environment.

  • Prioritize responsibilities and multi-task.

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of project information.

  • Present data to peers and senior scientific personnel within functional group.

  • Contribute to written reports, publications and patents.

In addition to above, the candidate should have:

  • Self-motivated, willing to learn.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organization skills.

  • Ability to work independently at times to select and implement methods and techniques.
